Mr. and Mrs. Shock-Pod From Queens

i'm a big fan of keith & the girl, an edgy podcast show out of queens, ny. imagine howard stern at his edgiest and most charming circa 1992. it's nice to see keith and chemnda garner some mainstream recognition. podcasting is the last bastion of censor-free broadcasting. here's to hoping katg don't sell out as their popularity grows.

zooomr tv

admittedly, i’ve found myself frustrated at various points throughout zooomr’s recent prolonged downtime as its overseers upgrade the site to the latest version mark iii. this isn’t a bad thing. i simply love the site and the community, and i’m anxious to login again, share new photos and catch up on the work of some of my favorite fellow zooomrs. for a while there, i thought i might soon transition from frustration to the seven stages of grief, but it appears that zooomr will soon be back online. congratulations to kris and thomas, the guys behind the site.

anyway, despite my impatience, i must say that i enjoyed a great deal the live video stream, or zooomr tv, offered by the guys at zooomr through the upgrade period. the stream offered a unique glimpse into the inner workings of a fledgling startup at a significant crossroads and access to the people behind the site. the associated live chat rounded out the experience nicely. i am a big admirer of thomas hawk’s work. needless to say, it was a great thrill to be able to pick his brain on various photography techniques, equipment and software, as well as to discuss trivial topics like music, booze, great places to photowalk and other such nonsense.

thanks, kris and thomas, for opening the kimono. best of luck with mark iii.

checking in

i’m starting to realize just how much time i spend dabbling in zooomr, my favorite photo-sharing site. it’s currently unavailable as its proprietors upgrade it from version two to “mark iii”, and i’m bored out of my mind! also adding to my agitation is the growing swell of rumors surrounding the evaporating near-term financial viability of the company. stay tuned.

i’m still sorting through the many hundreds of pictures i took while in portland last weekend. overall i’m pretty disappointed, however i will be able to salvage a few more pictures in addition to those already posted here. i will certainly make the effort to carry a mono or tripod next time i visit. minor blurring, caused by slight movements on my part, ruined many potentially solid photos. anyway, look for a few more pictures from portland as soon as zooomr is back in business...er...online.

in the meantime, i’m posting below a few songs from a recent benefit gig jeff tweedy played solo at the vic in chicago. i listened to this excellent show, by both performer and recorder, in its entirety as i shuffled through the damp, quiet streets of portland in the early hours of saturday. all in all, mr. tweedy makes for damn good company. great city, great music, almost great weather. can't imagine a better morning. please enjoy.

was a ghost

i'll be shooting around portland, or, all weekend. i'm quite excited, as i haven't been in town since i picked up my d80. hopefully i'll have lots of shots to post here throughout next week.

in the meantime, i've posted a live acoustic version of "was a ghost", an excellent new song off of seven mary three's forthcoming dayandnightdriving. according to the band's website, they've wrapped up mastering the tracks and are in the process of shopping the album to various labels.

people find it so easy to dismiss this band and i cannot figure out why. for my money, jason ross is one of the best songwriters of his generation and i always look forward to his band's new music.

if "was a ghost" is any indication of the quality of the album, i can't wait to wrap my ears around it. check it out.

download "was a ghost"

and as a special treat, i've uploaded a live acoustic cover of springsteen's "dancing in the dark". this was recorded at the same show this march in orlando, fl.

sky blue sky out this week

many of you already may have grabbed wilco's highly anticipated new album via torrent a while ago. however, i encourage you to support the band by picking up a legal copy. i bought four and am handing out extras to friends. support your favorite band!

vote for my picture...please?
